Modern and Contemporary African American Art

This companion exhibition to Personal Treasures showcases important works by African American artists from the 1920’s through the 1990’s held in the Norton’s collection. Featured artists include Jacob Lawrence, Bob Thompson, Betye Saar, Jonathan Green, Thermon Statom, Faith Ringgold, Gordon Parks and others, offering a glimpse at the diversity of aesthetic expression and mediums in the broad scope of modern and contemporary art, such as abstraction, figures and landscapes done in mixed media collage, oil, photography and sculpture.
