The Norton Museum of Art has commissioned a large-scale glass construction to be created by contemporary artist Beth Lipman. Lipman was inspired by the Museum’s collection of Old Master still life paintings, and the piece will be installed in the center of the Museum’s European galleries. In her extravagant, blown glass sculptures, Lipman re-interprets the historical preoccupations with death and decay, over-consumption, and the sumptuousness of life as represented in 17th and 18th century European still-life paintings. The commissioned work will be displayed in the context of Old Master works by artists such as Daniel Seghers, Jan Fyt, and Juan de Arellano that Lipman selected.

Local presentation of this exhibition is made possible in part through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. J. Ira Harris and the Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass
