Bronze Caryatid Brooch
The term "caryatid" is derived from the Greek word for the women of Caryae, Greece and refers to sculptures of female figures which were used as supporting structures in ancient Greek temples. Inspired by the classic stylized essence of form depicted in primitive art, Amedeo Modigliani produced this figure that was never constructed. This brooch measures 3.5 X 3.6 cm. and is adapted from the image "Rose Caryatid", 1914 by Amedeo Modigliani.
