PACE
P.A.C.E. (Progressive After-school Art Community Education)

The Norton provides innovative after-school art programs to children living in six communities in Palm Beach and Martin counties throughout the year.

Vision

The vision of Norton P.A.C.E. is to provide a significant after school arts experience that affords a safe, consistent, and structured environment for children whose lives are often
deprived of structure. The second component of the program is to present dynamic, caring role models to help children develop positive self-images through positive achievement.

The program seeks to expand the students’ world by exposing them to multicultural and arts-integrated history, music, and literature themes and ideas as well as to the visual arts. It is the Norton Museum of Art’s joy and responsibility as an arts institution to provide this service to the community.

Objectives

Reaching approximately 700 children annually, the program:

  • fosters creativity and stimulates critical thinking for at-risk youth in a safe, supportive after-school environment
  • provides fun, educational art activities related to multicultural learning, Sunshine State Standards and Museum exhibitions
  • offers PACE students four visits to the Museum each year for tours and workshops related to the permanent collection and special exhibitions
  • employs teachers and artists from within PACE communities, thereby providing community role models for the children

PACE is offered free of charge to participants and to the six host communities in which it is located; free workshops are offered to other community-based organizations during the year.

The program has been recognized as a finalist for the President's Coming Up Taller Award.
