The New York Times reported that Li Huayi’s painting “draws on the age-old tradition of the Chinese literati while taking it to an entirely new stage.” Working in the unforgiving media of ink and colors on paper, his cliffs and waterfalls are rendered meticulously. Li’s goal is to “insure that the great tradition of Chinese landscape painting will have a great future."
