February 13, 2016

The Norton celebrated Chinese New Year (the year of the monkey) with a variety of free, exciting programs from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, made possible through the generosity of John and Heidi Niblack. The day’s activities included a dramatic and colorful dragon dance presented by the Lee Koon Hung Kung Fu Chinese Martial Arts Association of Sunrise, Fla., as well as a fireworks finale. Laurie Barnes, Elizabeth B. McGraw Curator of Chinese Art, presented a Curator’s Conversation about a recently acquired Chinese painting included in the special installation, Majestic Mountain Retreats; a pair of performances – one for children and one for adults – by pipa (Chinese lute) player Sun Li, a renowned performer with the New York-based ensemble, Music from China.
