About Nick Cave
Born in Jefferson City, MO, in 1959, Nick Cave became interested in clothing and fabric early. When asked why, he responded, “When you’re raised by a single mother with six brothers and lots of hand-me-downs, you have to figure out how to make those clothes your own…”
In 1982, Cave attended the Kansas City Art Institute, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Later, he received a Masters of Fine Arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan, and also studied dance with the Alvin Ailey Dance Company. Professor of Fashion Design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Cave works in sculpture, installation, performance, and video, and also has designed, manufactured, and marketed his own line of men’s and women’s clothing. Cave’s work is exhibited internationally, and has received numerous awards.
