The RAW Symposium:
Motherhood and Contemporary Art

The Norton Museum of Art presents The RAW Symposium in honor of artists such as Jenny Saville, Sylvia Plimack Mangold, and Phyllida Barlow who have achieved artistic acclaim while raising families, and who the Norton has celebrated with Recognition of Art by Women (RAW) exhibitions.

Keynote Speaker and Panel Moderator: Jennie Klein, Associate Professor of Art History, Ohio University School of Art and co-editor of The M Word: Real Mothers in Contemporary Art (Demeter Press, 2011)

Artist panelists include: Lenka Clayton, Alejandra Herrera Silva, Courtney Kessel, and Justine Kurland.

A reception for the speakers and audience will follow the panel discussion.

Free with Museum admission, the program is offered on the concluding weekend of the special exhibition, Phyllida Barlow: HOARD.

Recognition of Art by Women (RAW) is made possible by the Leonard and Sophie Davis Fund/MLDauray Arts Initiative.  RAW’s mission is to discover and promote living women artists.
