A Five-Day Workshop for All Subject K-12 Educators

This program is rescheduled for Summer of 2021

At a time when we are predominantly connected through technology, developing the ability to empathize and relate to others can help students understand their own feelings and treat others with kindness.

Led by Norton Museum of Art Education staff, this workshop will explore how looking at, discussing, and making art creates a culture of understanding that allows us to share multiple perspectives. Participants will also discover how artists use their practice to convey feelings and issues that are important to them, including identity and social justice issues.

At the end of this weeklong workshop, educators will have the opportunity to share and reflect on empathy-building projects and how to connect to their own classroom practice.

The 2020 Inspiring Empathy Through Art: The Norton Summer Teacher Institute will invigorate your practice and provide fresh ideas to take back to the classroom through experiences such as:

  • Studio art workshops with local artists
  • Presentations by Norton Museum of Art museum staff
  • Talks and workshops featuring special guests speaking about empathy and social justice
  • In-gallery conversations with fellow educators and Museum staff
  • Field trips to other cultural institutions in Palm Beach County

Applications close on March 30th, 2020 at 5pm. Applicants will be notified of decisions on April 15th, 2020.
