Traveling Artists, Tropical Landscapes

This talk explores the role of tropical landscapes in three works in the Museum Collection: Florida Scene by Thomas Moran (circa 1878), Pirate Country by Andrew Wyeth (1937), and Si se pudiera (If Only I Could) by José Bedia (1993). Together, these works tell a fascinating story about what Florida – and more broadly, the Caribbean – has meant to local and foreign artists over the past two centuries. How each artist portrays idyllic, tropical scenes rife with expressions of longing and memory will be discussed. Presented by Graduate Fellow Lesley Wolff.
