About the Artist

As a child, Nick Cave altered his hand-me-down clothing and learned how to sew. As an artist, he used recycled and found materials to assemble his wearable sculptures known as Soundsuits. The first one was made of twigs, but others are made of beads, toys, raffia, and in this case, thousands of buttons. Cave’s experience as a dancer and fashion designer inspired him to create a suit that often makes noise when performers wear them. Cave also creates large installations made of found objects, which are as fascinating as his Soundsuits.
