Book+Art: Women Without Men
Saturday, May 18 / 1PM-4PM
Book: Shahrnush Parsipur, Women Without Men: A Novel of Modern Iran (1989)
Film: Shirin Neshat, Women Without Men (2009)
After the publication of Women Without Men in her native Iran, Parsipur was arrested and jailed for her frank, defiant portrayal of women’s sexuality. Now banned in Iran, the novel traces the interwoven destinies of five women. Iranian artist Shirin Neshat, whose photographic work is in the Museum Collection, directed a stunning film adaptation of the book. Read the book in advance; see the film; then discuss both.
Screening is at 1 pm followed by a discussion at 3 pm.
This program is a partnership with the Palm Beach County Library System.
