Building a Contemporary Collection

Christopher Bedford, Jerry Fineberg, and Elliot Bostwick Davis

Sunday, December 1 / 3:30pm

Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) Director Christopher Bedford revised the museum’s mission to place greater emphasis on social equity and reinforced the institution’s commitment to diversity by deaccessioning seven works and acquiring more works by women and artists of color. Before joining BMA, he restored the credibility of the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University after the school proposed selling its art collection and closing in response to the 2008-2009 financial crisis. Bedford will be joined by Jerry Fineberg, one of ArtNews magazine’s Top 200 Collectors, who assisted in building the Rose’s contemporary collection, and Norton Director and CEO Elliot Bostwick Davis, for a conversation
about institutions and their roles in presenting the diversity of contemporary art.
