Paul Cohen, son of artist George Cohen (1919-1999), discusses his father’s work with Ellen E. Roberts, Harold and Anne Berkley Smith Curator of American Art and organizer of the exhibition George Cohen: Artist of the Chicago Avant-Garde. This exhibition celebrates collector Ellen Stern’s recent gift of five works by George Cohen, a leading figure in Chicago’s avant-garde art world. With Cosmo Campoli, Leon Golub, and June Leaf, Cohen organized annual “Momentum Exhibitions” that led critics to dub the group a “new Chicago School.”
