Make Art with the Armory / Figure Sculpting: Depictions and Products of Gesture

Learn gestural figure sculpture through the use of paper armatures and stoneware clay. We will move quickly, embracing the material's agency to create gesture. Slides will include contemporary and historical figures in the field.
Please come with an open mind and pose ideas!
About the Instructor:
Jenn Kaplan is the 2021-22 Ceramic Artist in Residence at the Amory Art Center. Recently, they earned their MFA from the University of Notre Dame while teaching undergraduate ceramic courses. After earning a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a concentration in ceramics, Jenn taught ceramics and painting throughout Chicago. They currently teach a variety of ceramic courses including figure sculpture, ceramic chemistry, wheel throwing and altering, urban gardening, and hand-building workshops for adults and young people.
