School Tours Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cost for tours, whether they are guided, teacher-led, or virtual?
All tours for K–12 students during the school year are completely free for students, teachers, and chaperones. This includes guided, teacher-led, and virtual tours. If your tour includes an art activity, all supplies and materials are also provided at no additional cost.
Can I start my in-person guided or teacher-led tour earlier than 9:30 am?
Unfortunately, the Museum opens at 10 am and we are unable to make exceptions for earlier starting times. If you have any further questions about tour timing, please don't hesitate to email us.
Can I have lunch at the Museum?
Yes, you are more than welcome to bring any packed lunches with you in coolers or lunch boxes. But please let us know in advance so that we can prepare a space to store lunches.
Can I order from the restaurant on the day of my trip?
We recommend placing your lunch order in advance if you plan to order from The Restaurant. Please place your order at least a week before your trip date. The lunch space is reserved for 30 minutes, and large group orders can take up to 20 minutes to prepare, which may limit your time to eat and enjoy the space. (The Restaurant Menu).
Will the tours include artworks that feature nudity?
No, we do not include artworks containing nudity in our guided tours. However, students may encounter such work while moving through the galleries. We work closely with our docents to plan routes that avoid these pieces whenever possible. If you have any concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us for further information. Teachers are also welcome to visit the Museum the week before their scheduled trip to preview the planned tour route.
How long are the tours, art activities, and lunch breaks, and what time do these activities start?
- Guided tours last 50 minutes to 1 hour and typically begin at 10:00 am.
- Art activities also run for 50 minutes to 1 hour and start at 11:00 am.
- Lunch is held in the garden with a reserved space from 12:00 to 12:30 pm.
What happens if we arrive late?
If your group arrives late, we will need to shorten the time allocated for each scheduled activity, except for lunch. Tours and art activities will be adjusted to ensure students and teachers still have a full 30-minute lunch and can depart on time. If you anticipate a delay, please contact us in advance so we can adjust the schedule accordingly.
Where is the parking lot, and how much does it cost?
Parking is available across the street from the Museum at 1501 S. Dixie Highway. It is free for group tours. You will receive a guest parking pass, which must be printed and displayed on your vehicle’s windshield to avoid citations.
What is the minimum or maximum number of students allowed for tours?
For guided tours and art activities, the minimum group size is 10 students. The maximum is 100 students. Groups of 100 must be divided into four smaller groups of 25 before arrival to ensure a smooth and organized experience. For teacher-led tours, the capacity is 30 students per group. They must be broken up into smaller groups of 5 – 10 with a chaperone present.
Are there guidelines I should share with chaperones who are attending?
Yes! Please print or email the chaperone guidelines to all participants who will be serving as chaperones. Their role is essential to the success of your visit, and we rely on their support throughout the day. You can access the guidelines here: Chaperones Guidelines.pdf
Is there a video I can share with students to help them prepare for their visit?
Yes! Please share this video created by the Museum’s Teen Advisory Squad. It covers the key rules and guidelines for visiting the Museum in a fun and student-friendly way: Dos and Don’ts Museum Visit Etiquette
