ArtSpeaks: A Conversation on Calligraphy with John Niblack and Shawn Yuan
Celebrate Lunar New Year with a special conversation between John Niblack, the Norton’s long-time trustee and patron, and Shawn Yuan, Elizabeth B. McGraw Senior Curator of Asian Art. Discover Mr. Niblack’s passion for Chinese culture through his practice of Chinese calligraphy, his collection of Chinese art, and his study of the written language. This conversation accompanies the Norton’s Lunar New Year celebration and features Niblack’s own calligraphy exhibited in That’s Entertainment: Japanese Prints and the Art of Leisure.

Enjoy live music by Mr. Cao’s Trio. A string group led by Chinese-American conductor and pianist, Yun X. Cao, Mr. Cao’s Trio will perform a variety of eclectic music, including “Libertango” by Astor Piazzolla. Yun currently serves as the Assistant Conductor for the Palm Beach Symphony. He is also the assistant conductor for the Frost Symphony Orchestra and a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the Frost School of Music under the tutelage of Gerard Schwarz. As a pianist, he has played side-by-side with the Cleveland Orchestra, soloed concerti with orchestras across the United States, led Baroque ensembles from the harpsichord, and is an avid chamber musician.
