Spooky Stories
Step into the shadows of the past with Janet DeVries, local historian and storyteller, for a captivating journey through the history of Woodlawn Cemetery — just across the street from the Norton Museum of Art. Discover the fascinating lives (and untimely ends) of some of West Palm Beach’s most iconic figures, including the infamous Laura Upthegrove, the "Queen of the Everglades" and fearless companion of notorious outlaw John Ashley. Through tales of love, loss, legend, and lore, Janet brings the cemetery’s storied past to life, revealing how this peaceful resting place holds the secrets of a city’s rise, its rogues, and its remarkable characters. Perfect for history buffs, true crime fans, and curious spirits alike.
