Curator Conversation / Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and Mexican Modernism from the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection
Ellen Roberts, Harold and Anne Berkley Smith Curator of American Art, discusses the new exhibition Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and Mexican Modernism from the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection. The show features the largest group of works by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera ever to be on view at the Norton and presents their art alongside other leading figures of the artistic renaissance which occurred after the end of the Mexican Revolution in 1920.The exhibition includes over 150 paintings, works on paper, and photographs, as well as period clothing.

Join our Open Studio and create a Diego Rivera puppet designed by our very own Teaching Artist, Jose Mendez. Open to all ages and artistic talents!

About the artist: Jose R. Mendez, Teaching Artist, joined the Norton Museum of Art in 2019. Prior to this, he was a Child Development Specialist for the Bridges initiative. He is now the Gallery Coordinator for Hatch 1121, Free-lance artist for organizations such as Cultural Council of Palm Beach County, Arts 4 All Florida, Kravis Center, Resource Depot and works with private organizations. He is the Co-founder and Creative Director of Day of The Dead Lake Worth Beach since 2015. Jose is a self-taught artist and works with mixed medias. His inspiration is indigenous arts and his Maya roots.

Jazz Friday Performance / POCKiT
Hailing from South Florida, the band combines powerful sound elements of New Orleans Funk, Jazz-Fusion, and Afro-Latin rhythms to create a cohesive, diverse sound. Chip Gardner, Moi Linares, and Josh Walton make up the multicultural Funk-Latin-Fusion powerhouse known as POCKiT, bringing vital cultural and sonic perspectives to the group. That unique composition of talent has earned them a space in the bustling South Florida music scene.
