To mark the publication of Ralph Norton and His Museum, by Ellen E. Roberts, Harold and Anne Berkley Smith Curator of American Art, this program places Museum founder Ralph Norton in the context of other American collectors who founded museums in the first half of the 20th century. Nathaniel Silver, Curator of the Collection of The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston; Thom Collins, Neubauer Family Executive Director and President of The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia; and Susan Behrends Frank, Curator of The Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., provide insight about the collectors who founded their respective institutions. A panel discussion follows, moderated by Roberts.
