Games Around the World Community Day

Celebrate Summer at the Norton with a day of creativity and discovery with Games Around the World. This community day features a variety of programs in the Museum’s galleries and garden, celebrating works in the Norton’s Collection and cultural traditions from around the globe. 

Main events include the South Florida Pétanque Club, Palm Beach Chess Club, and an interactive performance of Afro-Brazilian martial arts by Capoeira Karkara Cultural Arts Center. 

Games Around the World also features Lotería, a traditional Mexican game of chance, animated films, art activities, docent-led tours, outdoor games, and more. All ages and ability levels are welcome.

  • Learn and Play Chess | Pearson Room

    Palm Beach Chess coaches will be available to teach chess and introduce more experienced players to the finer points of the game. 


  • The South Florida Pétanque Club | Goergen Garden

    Meet enthusiasts of this French game that is a bit like bowling and bocci, and try the sport yourself. 

  • Giant Garden Games | Goergen Garden

    Kids and adults alike will enjoy playing gigantic versions of Connect Four and checkers. You can also build something with giant LEGOs!

  • Express Docent Tour | Meet in the Great Hall

    Join our docents for a quick tour of the Norton’s Collection. 

  • Short films | Stiller Auditorium

    View animated short films the whole family will love! 

    Also at 1 - 1:30 pm, 2 - 2:30 pm, and 4 - 4:30 pm. 

  • Art Workshop | Classrooms 1 and 2

    Drop-in art activity.  

  • Lotería | Korman Room

    Win prizes with this traditional Mexican board game of chance, similar to bingo! Also at 1:30 - 2 pm and 2:30 - 3 pm. 

  • Spotlight Talks with Norton Summer Interns | Meet in the Great Hall

    Join our summer interns for 15-minute talks about great works in the Norton’s Collection.

  • Chess Master Challenge | Pearson Room

    Want to play against a master? State champion and USCF National Master Bryan Tillis will play a simultaneous exhibition match against multiple players all at once. 

    Space is limited and registration is required.

    Join our docents for an in-depth tour of the Norton’s Collection. 

  • Family Performance – Capoeira Karkara Cultural Arts Center | Great Hall

    Serving Palm Beach County for over 17 years, the Capoeira Karkara Cultural Arts Center is committed to sharing their passion for Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art that challenges you physically, mentally, and emotionally, while having fun in a playful, family-friendly environment. Families, kids, teens, and adults of all ages and ability levels are welcome to attend!

    Norton Art + App 

    Check out the Norton Art+ augmented reality app during your visit! Engage with this app and how you can explore contemporary art in a whole new way.

    Project Room | Hearst Learning and Community Engagement Center

    Visit the Project Room on the second floor and go beyond looking at art to draw, build, read, and playfully explore New York Mural by Stuart Davis.
