Spotlight / Julie Mehretu: Epigraph, Damascus

Julie Mehretu (Ethiopian, b. 1970) incorporated a series of deconstructed architectural renderings of Damascus, Syria as the basis for this remarkable, six panel print. Epigraph, Damascus (2016) will feature this newly acquired work by an artist known for her gestural abstract compositions which can be interpreted in this print as poignant and a deeply expressive commentary on current events.
