Art After Dark / Moon Festival

Friday, September 17 / 5PM-7PM

Art After Dark hosts a return engagement by Ann Yao who will perform Chinese music on the zheng (zither) in celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival in the Museum Garden. Guests can also enjoy a rabbit lantern making project in honor of the holiday celebrated across East and South Asia. A virtual Jazz Friday premiere features The CieL Experience, recorded live at the Museum on September 3.  

Docent Spotlight Talks have ended for the Summer. We look forward to resuming Docent Tours in October.

  • Concert: Ann Yao, Zheng Music

    Sculpture Garden

    A native of Shanghai, Ann Yao is a Chinese musician specializing in zheng (long plucked zither) music. She graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and worked as a zheng soloist at China National Traditional Orchestra before she moved to the U.S. in the mid-1980s.  As a zheng soloist, she has been toured extensively and performed at many concert venues, including the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Carnegie Hall, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and more. Ann is the 2009 Florida Folk Heritage Award winner and multiple-time recipient of Florida Folklife Apprenticeship Program Award.

  • Open Studio: Rabbit Lantern Making & Jade Rabbit Gallery Activity

    Colonnade

    Enjoy an art making activity related to ancient Chinese legends of the Moon, and pick up a copy of the Jade Rabbit Gallery Activity for your visit to the Museum’s Chinese galleries on the first floor.

  • Virtual Jazz Friday: The CieL Experience

    The CieL Experience combines the styles of R&B, swing, hip-hop, and traditional Haitian music, rooted in the harmonies and improvisation of the American jazz tradition. Saxophonist and band leader, Claudens Louis, explores the infinite possibilities of these genres by using the different backgrounds, cultures and influences within the group to present fresh compositions and arrangements accessible to a wide range of listeners.

Attending Art After Dark

Hours: The museum is currently open to the public until 10 pm on Friday nights.

Entry: Admission during Art After Dark is $10 for Adults & Seniors, $5 for Students. Tickets may be purchased at the Reception Desk or reserved in advance

Parking: Parking is available in the Norton’s main parking lot at 1501 South Dixie Highway, immediately across the street from the Museum. Parking is $5 per car, per day. Norton Members park for free.

Food and drink: The Restaurant at the Norton offers indoor and outdoor seating with beautiful views of our Sculpture Garden. Along with great food, The Restaurant serves creative cocktails, wine, and champagne. Reservations available through Tock.
