Join Laurie Barnes, Elizabeth B. McGraw Curator of Chinese Art, in an exploration of the painting Immortals Playing Weiqi. The painting depicts the popular gods of happiness, high salary and long life—who figure prominently in Chinese New Year celebrations—engaged in a deeply contemplative competition that is widely considered to be the oldest continuously played board game in the world. Learn why mastering the game of Weiqi has been described as “putting your hand on the third rail of the universe.
