Tonight’s programs highlight the Norton’s Celebrating Black Florida series! Learn about the Black blues singers that delivered messages of liberation and hear songs of the era. Hear the story behind the iconic Sunset Lounge in West Palm Beach’s historic Northwest District.

  • Blues Women: The First Civil Rights Workers

    Retired Jazz and Blues vocalist and composer Dr. Joan Cartwright discusses how Black singers in the United States of America emerged from Spirituals and Blues to develop Jazz. Their free-spirited songs delivered messages of liberation, signaling to Africans in America that they could be free. This lecture features songs of the era performed by vocalists Dottie Kelly and Sabrena Rich. Tune in for the premiere on the Norton’s YouTube channel.

  • Spotlight Talks in the Garden

    Spotlight Talks offer brief talks on two sculptures in the Norton’s sculpture gardens. This week features Fernand Leger (French, 1881-1955) Le tournesol (The Sunflower), 1952 and Franz West (Austrian, 1947-2012) Gorgo, 2006. To join, meet in the Fabrikant Lobby (outside the Restaurant).

  • Norton Walking Tours and Happy Hour

    In conjunction with the Norton Museum’s 80th anniversary, these walking tours invite guests to get to know the Norton’s neighborhood, a historic part of West Palm Beach. Following the tour, enjoy happy hour (cash bar) in the garden at Art After Dark. Rick Gonzalez, President and Co-Founder of REG Architects in West Palm Beach, leads the tours.

  • What’s the Story? Sunset Lounge and the Northwest District

    Alisha R. Winn, Ph.D., Applied Cultural Anthropologist discusses the iconic jazz venue, the Sunset Lounge, and highlights the rich history of the predominantly African American community of the Northwest District. Join the virtual conversation and ask questions using the Live Chat features on YouTube and Facebook.

Attending Art After Dark

Hours: The museum is currently open to the public until 10 pm on Friday nights.

Entry: Admission during Art After Dark is $10 for Adults & Seniors, $5 for Students. Tickets may be purchased at the Reception Desk or reserved in advance

How to get here: The Norton Museum of Art is located at 1401 S. Dixie Hwy., West Palm Beach, FL 33401. For more information, click here.

Parking: Parking is available in the Norton’s main parking lot at 1501 South Dixie Highway, immediately across the street from the Museum. Parking is $5 per car, per day. Norton Members park for free.

Food and drink: The Restaurant at the Norton offers indoor and outdoor seating with beautiful views of our Sculpture Garden. Along with great food, The Restaurant serves creative cocktails, wine, and champagne. Reservations available through Tock.
